Customer called me yesterday while removing a roof top HVAC unit to put on a new roof. seems like after they turned off the power to unit the hot water tank stopped working.

To my surprise i found a piece of 1/2 " conduit no protective bushings coming off the tank with 2- 10# wires in it pipe went up to ceiling then conduit stopped and just the 2-10# wires were laying on ceiling then came over and down into another piece of 1/2" conduit and then down and in behind the 100 amp shut off and was tapped to the fuse holders.

this tank was running fused at 100 amps no ground and wires exposed for at least 10 yrs and there was never a problem . You have to wonder how no one got hurt working in the ceiling or there was not a fire.
