It seems that Pam's post has rocked the cradle a little bit!

The International Fire Investigation Research Institute IS a new group. They opened their doors on February 1, 2012.

Mark Goodson was correct in his statement that is is the old Unified Investigations & Sciences address in Dallas. The new Institute is, in fact, in the same facility, and was started up by Carter Roberts, who was the founder of Unified. I have personally known Carter for over a decade, and it should be known that he is still a member of both the IAAI AND NAFI.

Reading Pam's original posting, I don't see where she requested, or suggested that anybody abandon their current memberships. In fact, most fire investigators, including me, are members of (and maintain credentials through) both the IAAI and NAFI, and haven't abandoned one for the other.

The creation of a new association isn't anything to be afraid of. In fact, competition makes for better services and products, and promotes each organization to improve their services, to ensure their membership.

Let's give IFIRI the opportunity to get their magazine out, and show us what they will give to the community before we criticize them. Everybody was a new investigator at some point. Likewise, the existing associations were new at one point, too;, and, with time, they grew successfully from there.

No one person should be "The Man" in this industry. It's a good thing to have diversity. In fact, diversity keeps our business alive.
