Finding reliable specific emissive factors for the surface being measured will be the trick. You can easily get a measurement with this device, but how scientifically reliable is the measurement being made? How clean and how weathered the surface is can have a significant effect on the emissivity of the surface. That is why these devices are better for looking at relative temperature contours of surfaces.
