It has nothing to do with reciting a definition. It has to do with having a basic understanding of the 16 subject matters outlined in NFPA 1033 and being able to provide a clear and articulate explanation of the material.
If you can't do this, bottom line you should not be investigating fires. If you don't feel it's necessary to know this information, please do us all a favor and supply the community with the transcript of your next deposition or trail testimony.
