I agree with you, what does it matter. The latest I had on this was an engineer/fire investigator saying the specific minimum ignition energy for methane was .28 mJ according to NFPA 921. He had no knowledge as to the potential for this value to be wrong by 20%. I do not believe he ever read the ASTM standard. The problem is there was a chance the jury would believe this is an absolute value. I have sent a public input to 921 to have the wording from the precession section of that ASTM document added under the table.
