This person makes reference to two documents, an AAAS report released last summer and a “National Academy of Forensic Science” report. There is no National Academy of Forensic Science. The report being referenced is almost certainly “Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward,” released in 2009 by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The NAS report had 4 sentences relevant to fires. The report can be accessed here: [www.ncjrs.gov]
The AAAS report, a Quality and Gap Analysis on Fire Investigation, is a thorough analysis of the state of the art in fire investigation and the chemical analysis of fire debris. It can be accessed here: [mcmprodaaas.s3.amazonaws.com]
The AAAS project was going to study 10 different disciplines in forensic science. Fire Investigation was the first discipline studied. A second report on Latent Fingerprint Analysis was released in September 2017. A brief summary may be found here: [www.aaas.org]
