Believe it or not, it IS possible to conduct an effective forensic engineering investigation without referring to NFPA 921.
Without understanding the context of what happened at the deposition prior to the quoted discussion, it's hard to draw any useful conclusions. But it does appear that the witness was unprepared for that specific line of questioning.
