John & Doug
Both of you know me well - I am usually not one to throw out unfounded opinions...
I have seen NUMEROUS cases gutted because an engineer with CFEI behind his name attempted to do O&C work for which they are not qualified. Nevertheless, they are "certified" by virtue of taking the one week course.
Doug - as to your point - I actually agree... MEs and EEs can do tremendous work in O&C when they apply themselves to that craft. There are some PEs (you included) who regularly do O&C and for whom the 16 1033 topics are of no challenge...
John - I understand with what you are saying... I have seen good O&C work, followed by good engineering work, and then... in deposition the opposing attorney takes the engineer into the realm of doing O&C work. Now there are two "O&C's" and they do not agree... the engineer does not know the case well in terms of the O&C facts.. he then gets tripped saying something in deposition that he was never prepared for.
I think we are all in agreement that good training, education and experience will lead to better outcomes..
