Propane storage in an evidence room

Good afternoon.
In my jurisdiction I have 2 private fire investigation firms, both totally above board and as far as I am concerned top notch in their work. I did an inspection at one of their offices today and found (2) 20 propane tanks in their evidence storage locker. One full the other partially full. They were both tagged as evidence and one of them had evidence tape over the valve orifice. While the quantity currently being stored is within code for interior storage my fear is with ongoing investigations these agencies could exceed their maximum allowable quantities of propane for being stored inside. I do not want these companies to spoil evidence from my code enforcement but looking for guidance in how to deal with this issue without spoiling evidence but yet keep these multi-tenant buildings safe.
How do you folks handle this.

Thanks in advance.
