Just my two cents:
Unless all parties are in agreement and with written authorization, Private firms cannot tamper with the evidence (even for safety reasons) until the claim is resolved or they will face potential Negligence and Spoliation Claims against the E&O Insurance of those firms.
There is no logical reason why they cannot be stored secured in an outside secured location (just as they are at the service facility supplier). Yes there are added steps that need to be in play but the evidence must be retained intact as collected.
