The September issue of my monthly newsletter "Sifting the Ashes," is up and available for viewing. The address is www.firescientist.com

This issue includes an update on David Gavitt of Michigan who was released after 27 years in 2012 and has finally been granted the compensation for wrongful conviction from the state.

There is a link to an article about insurance companies cooperating with the public sector in prosecuting insurance fraud (it must be done carefully) and another link to an article about contextual bias in fire investigations.

There is another link to the Robert Yell case from Kentucky. Mr. Yell was finally given a certificate of innocence this past spring. The judge who exonerated him had an interesting take on fire investigation.

Other links include Radley Balko's six-part examination of forensic science and an article about fire investigators’ risk of cancer.

This month's case study shows what can happen when people don't stay in their lane and end up making illogical conclusions, coincidently threatening the liberty and welfare of their fellow citizens.

As always, readers’ feedback is encouraged.
