The December issue of Sifting the Ashes is now up on the website www.firescientist.com.

This issue includes a link to the ongoing Grenfell Tower investigation and an article on lithium-ion batteries excerpted from Scientific Protocols for Fire Investigation. It also has a link to a podcast on handling alleged lithium-ion battery fire investigations.

This month's case study describes what happens when a mixup in a State fire debris testing laboratory caused gasoline to be incorrectly identified in a residential fire. The homeowners luckily avoided criminal prosecution, but it took more than eight years of litigation before they were finally made whole.

As always, readers’ comments are welcome.
