If you don't know the units of energy and power and the difference between energy and power, that's not forgetting "a little here and there." You should know these concepts in your bones and be able to recite them off the top of your head. If you don't want to learn the essentials of fire, energy, heat flux, and basic fire chemistry, you are not qualified to investigate fires and you are certainly not qualified to send people to prison or help an insurance company rob them of their life savings based on your opinion. Because your opinion is not worth spit if you can't put it into the context of fire berhavior.

If you want to be an expert, then be an expert. Otherwise, find another line of work. Please.
