Accreditation will not be required. There is a need, however, for a standard that accrediting bodies can use to evaluate agencies that want to become accredited. The OSAC Subcommittee on Fire and Explosion Investigation, which started the process by requesting the NFPA Standards Council to initiate a Technical Committee, is also working on a template QA manual, complete with template SOPs/SOGs. This will allow agencies to avoid much of the time and expense required to become accreditation-ready.
Accreditation is very rare for FI Units now. It will be years before it becomes common.
