Candle fires

Had a case last week with a fire starting in a livingroom.

Usual suspects : socket outlet behind a couch with a powerstrip
supplying a sound system (on Standby) and mobile phone left on charge etc.
Joker in the pack was a homemade decorative candleholder hung above the couch;
lady had used it for the first time, lighting a standard candle in it about 5pm
leaving it burning upon going to bed (11 pm) sure that it would burn out shortly.
Fire was discovered in the wee hours after 2am. Dog inside bought the farm.

So how long does a standard 10"-pillar candle burn?
Easy enough to test : By 2am I had my answer; > 11 hours.
Brewed the cuppa Joe extra strong this morning...
