With all due respect....every client who hires a fire investigator knows what they want. It is up to you to get that made clear before you set out on the assignment.
If the client is an insurance company lets face it......essentially they want to know two things which your investigation hopefully will assit them in determining. The are
1. has there been a violation of the terms, conditions, and provisions of their policy of insurance regarding the cause of the fire and sometimes even the subsequent claim. We all know or should know what that entails. I will go into more detail should you need me to.
2. Is there someone that is responsible for the fire or the extent and severity of the damage that they can go after to recover damages under their subrogation rights.
I believe that every fire investigator worth his/her pay should be able to at least identify potential subrogation issues that may be involved in any given fire. One need not be an expert in all those potential areas but you should be able to identify those to your client so they can get an expert who is. Your example #1 is a case in point.
