Hope this does not appear to be FIBPB so here goes.

Had a stove top fire. Back stove eye has thick aluminum pan that is partially melted on outer side, small crack on bottom, and round circles on bottom that correspond to eye. Only water was found in pan, no evidence of grease. Stove top was covered by hood exhaust which fell onto stove top. Elderly disabled gentleman had a habit of lighting his cigarettes with stove eyes. Back half of hood is blackened and has lost some smoothness with front part of hood showing clean burn patterns. Question: Is there any available research that would disprove the hypothesis that the eye heated the pan to such a temperature that transferred heat to the hood which in turn destroyed wood cabinets surrounding the hood. Unable to measure hood height because wood supports and cabinets were destroyed. Also stove controls and glass control indicator destroyed.
