Anybody out there had fires on these horses?

Mine's is under hood towards the front of the twin-turbo diesel V8;
combustibles such as plastic covers, reservoirs and piping are all gone here,
but it seems to have:
- fuel pump towards the rear of the block, feeding fuel lines (nylon?; gone now)
to 8 sets of high-pressure injectors (I'm guessing here) to each cylinder head;
it these leak, it could spray fuel up/down to be swept backward onto the turbos.
- From the same vicinity, steering fluid is pumped and returned by two metal pipes
over the head to the front-right to the steering box & -reservoir (gone);
these metal pipes connect here via a braided rubber inlet and rubber hose return
(rubber all gone); leak here could be swept back onto the exhaust manifold.
- Gearbox oil feeds from the rear under the left of the block to a front radiator;
feed- and return all metal until it feeds up in front of the block to radiator
where both have ubber sections.
- Oil intercooler seems to be integrated onto the front of the block,
with water circulating to it from the front water radiator.

Only strange thing I noticed was the block's crank's front pulley wheel's front plate
(which seems to be dampered against a baseplate behind it) has a dent/bulge
the size of my thumb, and the alloy sump behind it has some localized melting there.

If it was a steering fluid leak on the return line (to pump),
how quickly could/would the driver experience powersteering failure?

If it was a fuel leak between fuel pump and injector pumps,
would the engine stumble? Could such diesel collect in the V and overflow forward?

And how long is that piece of string?
