Gotta forklift fire:

The scene suffered (extreme) spoilation, with the forklift stripped of
- all three wheels
- the driver's chair, the steel plate it was attached to, and the battery and hydraulic pump underneath.
- the dashboard, hydraulics, lights and wiring.
- The steel plating between the cab and engine, and the engine’s side mesh panels.
- the engine’s air intake filter, exhaust, alternator and starter motor.
Most of it has already been refurbished and repainted.
The starter motor and alternator had been sent away for refurbishment, and not available to me.

Got a few photo's before they high-pressure spray-cleaned and stripped;
- Low burn against an outer panel leading up from the general vicinity of the starter motor.
- wiring leading off from the starter and solenoid was burnt and the solenoid void of sooting

Battery is A-OK and cabling to the starter/solenoid not sleeved etc.

What could cause the solenoid to overheat like this?
- stuck ignition key?; would this cook the solenoid but not it's cabling?
- stuck bendix? Would this feed back and cook the solenoid, but not the battery?
