2003 Tiffin Phaeton Motor Home Fire

I looked at a fire a few days ago in a 2003 Tiffin Phaeton motor home. The couple was driving from Michigan to Florida. They had stopped in Ohio and had been on the road 2-3 hours when the fire occurred. In northern Kentucky they were going up a steep grade when it suddenly lost mechanical power. The driver pulled it to the side of the road. The guages all read normal and the engine was running OK. The wife got out to see what was wrong and saw smoke coming from the rear air intake vents. A couple minutes later flames were seen coming from the left rear of the RV. By the time the fire was extinguished the rear of the RV was mostly consumed with heavy fire and heat damage throughout the RV. It had a Caterpiller 330 engine. There had been no mechanical problems or oil leaks. It was difficult to examine because I was not able to really access the engine compartment but it was clear the fire started on the left rear of the engine. It had 39,000 miles on it. Has anyone seen any of these fires and what was the cause?
