I am investigating a car fire in a 2001 Buick Park Avenue. The car had approximately 35,000 miles on it. He had not serviced it in a few years except he did his own oil changes etc. He denies any problems with the car.

The owner had driven the car the day before approximatly 5-6 miles and parked it at 4:00 p.m. At 7:00 the next morning he was awakened by his dog barking and saw a glow through the window. He looked out and the engine compartment was on fire.

The area of origin was the left front (drivers side) of the compartment. The battery was in the right front. I'm looking for information and opinions about how the fire might have occurred.
