Where a couple of persons have made general comments on this topic, I like to know what is the consensus of the statements below.

What is a paradigm as it relates to fire investigation - Set of recognized scientific factors that for a time provide a model for the community of investigators; the investigators must recognize that the paradigm is not merely a hypothesis, but is influenced by other factors such as scientific observation and experience. The paradigm defines the problem that is attempting to be solved and address specifically the questions and facts that need to be assembled in order to address the examination of the problem, which is the accurate identification of the origin and cause of the incident. A paradigm assumes "truth" and is only redefined when there is sufficient documentation acquired through recognized methods of examination of the facts to where it calls what is believed to be the truth into question.

NFPA 921 is a generally agreed upon framework theory that guides how one identify problems and develop experiments and / or solutions to explain the problem. This framework theory, or paradigm, is used by the fire investigation community to decide what approaches fit; to decide what is appropriate and consistent with a generally accepted body of knowledge for the determining the origin and causes for fires and explosions.
