Just to add to this one during the police interview, our accused told us that if an open flame was applied to it (paste) and this after fire suppression had occurred and several hours later, we could still easily ignite this paste.
So nearly two days after the fire (while working under a search warrant) I scraped a piece off the floor and as part of an field experiment we did a test in the parking lot in order to confirm this information. We recorded this experiment on video.
Sure enough, once an open flame was applied to it we were able to ignite it. Lab test results also confirmed the presence of gasoline.
