I am partial to Nikon products so this will be slightly slanted.
I carry a Nikon AW-100 point and shoot. This is my have it in the pocket camera for quick grab shots. Has a great macro setting and can render a 16mp JPG I believe the current model is an AW-200. It is also waterproof up to 30 feet.

The second camera I shoot with for ALL INVESTIGATIONS is a Nikon D750 with an external flash. No point and shoot is going to give you the light output and flexibility of an external flash. I have also played with but do not own a Nikon D3200 that is a nice camera also.

The key to any good fire investigation photos is the flash.
