I just returned from the IAAI's International Training Conference in Jacksonville. It was a week well spent.

There were two excellent presentations on arc mapping (yes it's worth trying), a presentation by Steve Carman on elevated origins, and a report from Dan Madrzykowski on a series of tests run at UL studying the impact of ventilation.

That last one resulted in a web portal showing experiments in visible and infrared, as well as the output of thermocouples, radiometers, pressure sensors, velocity measurements, and oxygen measurements, with the oxygen being the most important variable. The web portal, which also has a link to the 300+ page written report is located here: [fireinvestigation.ulfirefightersafety.org]

The interaction with old friends and colleagues was also very valuable, as was the opportunity to sell autographed copies of my Third Edition. I should have brought more than the 50 copies that I did, because I sold out. I suppose there are worse problems one can have.

For those who tried to get a copy after the stock was sold out, you can find it deeply discounted (under $80) here: www.firescientist.com
