The fire involved a (two decade-old) Electric Discharge Machine;
essentially a computerized machine used to (electrically arc) etch metal,
in this case, gear teeth down a bespoke steel gearbox drive spindle
using a brass tooth-shaped electrode (the drill chuck is just a quick-change mount).
