Cutomer of mine bought a building recently with a non functioning fire alarm were the board was completely burned up.
I started tearing the system out and removing the 120 wires by first tracing themout Found installer ran 2 feet of conduit then left the single conductor wires loose in bar joists then attached them to a piece of romex with no ground
that was plugged into a outlet in the building garage. the ground wire which was supose to be run with electrical wires to an electrical ground was instead
attached to a water pipe which effectively diverted the ground when the overload in panel occured in the power supply and caused the breaker to not open correctly and allowed panel to burn up. Talk about a total lack of respect for building codes.
becuse some idiot installer instead of hiring an electricain decided to do the work himself and not go 5 doors down to hardware store to get the correct wire.
