I have seen gould fuses that have failed but it was because they were misaplicated to the short circuit amperage the circuit calls for.
Class H fuse 30 amp which provides 10,000 amps short circuit protection would be acceptable for most household loads but heavy motor, transformer etc loads
would reguire a class R fuse which provides up to 100,000 short circuit amps protection. would need to know particulars to tell if fuses you had failed were the proper ones for the circuit they were being used in.
