Track One
Will focus around “Vehicle Fires”

Veteran Vehicle Fire Instructor Steve Mackaig will share the latest information concerning vehicle fire investigations with the students. Live burning of the vehicles and “hands on” scene examination will highlight this class. See and be part of an actual scene examination. Locating the fire’s origin (point of origin) and then identifying the material first ignited (fire cause), as well as understanding the fire dynamics of the burning automobile will be discussed in detail. The class will split into groups and be part of an actual on site vehicle examination.

A K-9 accelerant handler will be present to assist in the vehicle scene examinations. He will also explain the training techniques and procedures used to certify accelerant dogs.

Forrest Folcke will conduct a presentation on Forensic Lock-smithing relating to vehicles and vehicle fires. His presentation focuses on vehicle locks, switches, ignitions and systems that can assist in determining your cause and origin.


Track Two
Problem Solving Techniques in Fire Investigation

In addition to the main NFPA 921 presentation, Jim Allen will be presenting his 2½ day class on “Problem Solving Techniques in Fire Investigation”, co-instructed by Joe Konefal. Mr. Allen’s presentation takes you from basic fire dynamics through the sophisticated world of fire investigation including the numerous issues pertaining to NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921. This presentation is a must for the new Fire Investigator and is of considerable value to the seasoned Investigator as well.
