It's been a lousy week for owners of the 2013 Ford Escape. On Monday, the Blue Oval recalled 8,266 Escape models because of carpets that could intrude on the brake pedal. Today, Ford issued another recall for models equipped with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine, to replace a fuel line that could split and leak gas, potentially causing a fire.
In a statement today, Ford was unusually serious, warning customers to stop driving their vehicles and to "immediately contact their dealer." Ford said dealers would drop off loaner cars directly to owners while their cars were being repaired, which should take "less than two weeks." The recall extends to 11,500 vehicles built mostly for the U.S. market. Ford customers can call 1-866-436-7332 or visit Ford's owner website for more details.
