The bigger question has to be asked why has it taken so many years for such myths to finnaly be debunked and stopped.
It seems like every day we find another crime fighting method being questioned such as teeth mark impressions and even ballistics being called into question.
When all of these potential tools were put in to place where was the science to back it up. Where were the defense attorneys to question it validity why did the courts them selves not question its validity and demand proof that these investigative myths were allowed to go on for so long.

I see this in other fields as well.

lately in the Radio broadcast field engineers are rexamining famous claims made by inventers of Radio and Tv transmission claims and finding they never happened.
Take the case of Marconi sending the first morse code signal across the atlantic when he heard the famous S letter being transmittted it never happened
more than likely he was picking up a lightning storm in brasil at the time. We know this now because of the understanding of radio waves and power output which was not understood then. But even back then the claim was not able to be validated for sevral more years as Marconi had to greatly increase power and antenna strength to recreate his feat. but yet it has gone down in the histoory books he made the first transatlantic broadcast.
same with Fessedens claim of a christmas eve voice broadcast in 1915 to ships at sea. Again the story and claim can not be backed up but yet it is so in the history books.
Again where were the challanges to these claims and scientific proof.

It apears too many people are willing to take things at face value and never question what they see or hear look at all the nonsense with myths surounding 9-11 and WTC.
And then they are shocked and embarassed when this wall of i do not want to know suddenly comes crashing in one day.
