Yes I have had that problem many times because I use Memorex mini-Cdrs. They are double the capacity of the Sony ones and I experience the problem occassionally. There are two solutions.

First, NEVER finalize your disc and you wont have the problem. You can load the non-finalized CD in most drives and it still should read the information for you.

Second, there is a site you can download software called ISOBUSTER and it recovers ALL data from the disk without problems. Ran 29.95 but the best $ I ever spent.

I still use my 500 occassionally, but mainly use the Sony Alpha now.
