There are many fire related libraries that form a comprehensive set of available technical information. In addition to the already mentioned sources, there is the USFA library that Jim Munger is probably most familiar with as well as the technical library at NIST. The NIST library is available on their web site and at least publications published by NIST are electronically available for free from the web site. The best part of the NIST library is FIREDOC Express. You can order copies of any publication within the database and have it delivered through FedEx. Smaller articles can also be faxed. There is an annual fee and the time to retrieve the documents in the library, which are charged to an account. We have been successful in passing this charge onto clients. Thus, while not free, everyone in the fire investigation has access to a wealth of technical information.
