Does anyone have information on reliable documented testing regarding whether an arc or an electrical short will ignite fuels other than gaseous vapours within their flammable range and/or finely divided commodities such as wood shavings? As an example . . . testing on specific conditions where an arc or an electrical short is a competent ignition source and conversely where they are not competent ignition sources. Dr. Vyto’s “Ignition Handbook” says, “It is surprising how little systematic research has been done to elucidate and quantify the mechanisms whereby electric wiring faults lead to structure ignitions.”
