Hello,
You would have to diagram out what you are trying to explain as far as where the sun was as compared to the opening. It also does not just take direct sunlight through an item that may cause a "refraction" of the light rays. The sun may have reflected off of another surface such as a mirror from one of the vehicles, a chromed surface or the windows, etc.
AND each day the earth tilts more and the sun will be shining in a different position changing the potentials for all the above situations.
In rationalizing your sun theory remember that as the sun may shine through something to refract the rays it would need to be long enough in time to ignite something that would sustain combustion.
Just some reflections to share with you, pun intended.
