The "accelerant" initially identified was MPD. One sample from a T-shirt with an applique, and one sample from a painted window frame. No comparison samples were collected. A review of the chemical analysis data revealed that the MPD from the two samples had a different source, and it appeared that both samples exhibited incidental ignitable liquid, not an accelerant.
The man spent over 2.5 years awaiting trial, but at least a wrongful conviction was avoided.
