Interesting. Developing a consensus on the issue would be worthwhile. I have seen some operating procedures that state a classification can only be made if the residue peaks are present well above any background (gives rise to false negatives when the residue is present but slightly obstructed). And other procedures allow classifications when the residue peaks are almost wholly consumed by background (give rise to false positives). Surely there must be a middle ground we can all agree on...
