Yes there are calculation methods. There is a simple "point-source" model that has some limited applicability based on physical dimensions of fire and distance to the point source. There are other "non-point-source" models that require the calculation of "view factors" for thermal radiation heat transfer. These analysis techniques are found in any decent fire dynamics texts or in the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering.
