I agree with almost everything you posted and I may be wrong on the last item. I believe you were outside the subpoena power of the court. Now this may be different in criminal but I know in both federal and local civil courts you must be within the area covered by the court. In a civil case the most they can do is force a deposition for the record and then are allowed to use that during the proceedings. For you to return to the court's jurisdiction is voluntary.
