Canon eos rebel xt

Still getting use to digital.

Having trouble shooting outsdie middle of the night with no light, such as trying to shoot the top of a house roof. The camera tries to foucus but will not take a picture.

The other conditon is dark room no light and the walls are dark or covered with soot/ black. Smae thing camera tries to focus but will not take a picture.

The camera flash goes off for the camera to foucus butonce again camera will not take a picture.
