1. To be sure that the transcription was accurate and trully refleceted the data that was in the notes.
2. To be sure that nothing was hidden.
3. To be sure that nothing was missed.
4. To be sure that nothing was forgotten.
5. To be sure that there were no mistakes in transcription.
6. To avoid the unwaranted impeachment attempts of which you seem to be so terrified.
7. To avoid even the appearance of impropriety - not only to be above misdeeds, but to be above reproach.
8. But most of all, to force by example or establishment of a standard of care, the unscrupulous investigators from destroying their notes when they actually could be ysed against them.
