Sir Gary,
It seems like the same argument I made on the Reid Interviewing thread and the thread about Arc mapping. A little knowledge can be dangerous.
Those that are against the use of the canine have an agenda and often make up arguments to bolster legitimate concerns. Legitimate concerns are things such as the health of the dog, but they often follow it up with things like calling it an "Arson dog" or just by showing up with a dog the property owner will be considered an arsonist forever by friends and family. It is a tool.
If a competently trained person obtains a confession using the Reid technique then the findings will be legitimate. Never has any of those that have given me confessions later claimed that the confession was false. It is crazy to throw out a tried and proven TOOL because their are some idiots that can't properly us them. It is a TOOL.
If you understand the proper way to conduct arc mapping then it can be a very valuable tool.
ALL of these things are tools for the investigators tool box. Someone with minimal knowledge or integrity can destroy an investigation and lives if they improperly use their tools, whether a canine, arc mapping, interrogation, a shovel, 921 etc...
