It appears that the area of origin to be on top of an electric range and spreading onto the adjacent cabinets, walls and ceilings. There was a lot of debris which had fallen from overhead that I removed. Among the debris, I found the infamous “melting pot”, even though as I previous stated the home was unoccupied.

The firefighters were insistent that the range was unplugged which is the way that I found it during my arrival, laying forward and down on the floor, on top of some of the debris. When I removed the debris, repositioned the range, and plugged it back into the outlet, the forward motion of the range falling or being pulled forward was enough to unplug the range.

With the exception of very limited burning that appears to be from fall down, there is no fire damage to any of the floor coverings as it appears that they were protected by the falling debris.

The firefighters are also insistent they smelled diesel during their response inside the residence, which I have no reason to dispute and poses additional questions that include the possibility of diesel being poured into the aluminum skillet and being left on top of the range with the range eye in the on position.

I collected some samples which included some of the floor coverings with the oily residue. I too am curious as what this will show if anything.

This was an interesting fire scene to work. For a rural area, the fire department did a very good job with their response and extinguishment.
