Myth or Fact

In speaking with some sprinkler contractors, a comment was made about the glass bulbs in sprinkler heads. The comment was that small scratches could occur if they or cleaned in a method not suggest by NFPA. They said the small scratches could reduce the sensitivity of the bulb to heat. They said this reduction could cause the bulb to activate at a lower temperature than what was designated on the bulb.

Does anyone know if this is myth or fact.
