I am not an expert in the field, just have seen sprinkler breaks over 30 years.

I would say on the freezing,,, there may be a few variables.

1. The numerous types of sprinklers out there.

2. Similar they have changed over the years.

I have seen water freeze and break sprinklers, push the fusing loose.
