Where I agree with you about the 40 hours over 5 years being too little, I also understand that it depends where you are located as to the number of training hours that are available. You may be able to squeeze out 8-hours a year through CFITrainer.
I understand and agree with John’s position that if we cannot bring up the quality of our investigators maybe we do not need to be conducting investigations. The Louisiana chapter of the IAAI attempts to put on one statewide class and two regional classes each year. This would give the person 36-hours of training each year. If the person cannot make the statewide training, then the maximum he will have is 8-hours from this source. At the most he will get from CFITrainer will be 6-hours. I think this type of situation is what the committee was looking at along with what is require by the two major associations the certify fire investigators. I believe each uses the 40 over 5 concept. Where does he go to get additional training?
