"Hypothesis" has 4 syllables. Some people think you are "putting on airs" or acting like an "elite" when you use big words like that.
This is the world we live in. As Isaac Asimov said in 1980: "Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
