But what is the value of the same word having two very different meanings? A belief is not the same as an explanation developed through the application of the SM.
I see no upside to this duality. Again, what is the value of such?
I only see a downside. How many times has a lawyer made statements, such as, "but your opinion is only a theory." If the jury only understands the layperson's definition of a hypothesis, does this not go against the expert using the SM. In the minds of a jury, will they be resigned to understand that a hypothesis is only one's belief?
How is this not a subversion of the application of science?
