Firstly, allow my sincerest condolences at your personal loss;
everybody in our industry would like tragedies like this
to be something of the past.

I can’t speak for your country,
as each have their own legislation for furnishings/infant bedding,
but in Africa the foam mattress (polyurethane) is still prevalent;
not only is polyurethane highly flammable,
but it gives off toxic gases (Carbon monoxide and Cyanide)
often rapidly overcoming the victim long before the fire (ever) does.

Carbon monoxide and Cyanide binds to the hemoglobin
replacing the oxygen it would normally carry;
this tends to discolor the blood cherry-red.

Personally, I have witnessed too many such fires (often in prisons),
and would like to see such furnishings/bedding banned
and fire detectors in private residences mandatory.
