My posting was a from a Novice standpoint. I am not a Fire/Arson Investigator. I am just a homeowner who's home caught fire and the statement given to me by the San Diego Fire Department was that they could not determine the nature or cause of my fire. They only asked me what was in the area of a burn pattern. I was curious why they did not bring in an Investigator. After my house was roped-off, I visited the San Diego Fire Dept (Rancho Penasquitos Station) and talked to the Senior Fireman there. He stated to me that 50% of the fires where labeled 'unknown.' I am only passing on the information I was given in hopes of trying to understand why MY particular fire could not be explained. I seriously wanted to know if it were my husband ($500K Insurance Claim) or because of something mechanical that had to do with the structure. One of them, I can live with, the other I cannot.
